What is Brain Master Quizzing?

Brain Master Quizzing is a non-profit making, voluntary organisation set up to progress the overall 'Brain Master Mission' (which is to advance education) and provide quality, trustworthy, educational services, to students across NI, for free. After observing the love of quizzing within society, we immediately knew it was an important route to explore and develop on, to make our journey to utopian learning a success. What is the benifits to schools participating?

When schools promote quizzing through competitions like the BM Quizzing Championships (BMQC), schools will see real, long-term benefits by getting involved. It’s a brilliant way to showcase your school’s academic pedigree and an ideal opportunity to encourage students to learn new things for themselves, which are not restricted by a curriculum, building individuality

This is also an excellent way to boast student morale and improve mental health, through allowing them to individually learn how to get back up again even after getting an answer wrong (a quality which is vital for a good quizzer and exam student).

Through your schools participation you will meet other schools in a fun and positive environment which builds a strong relationship in and across communities- which is an important aspect for many schools.

What awards can be won?

Although the BM Quizzing Championships is not all about the awards and is mainly about illustrating the fun of learning new things, please find the full list of awards that can be won at BMQC 2022 here

Is this really for my type of school?

There is no single type of school that the BM Quizzing Championships are reserved for. All second-level schools in NI can and should enter! The BMQC's Questions are not tailored around school curriculums and are designed to fit students from any second level schools in NI. Students from any type of school, private or inner-city disadvantaged, have a chance to win the BM Quizzing Championships. After all, everyone loves quizzing!

What are the costs involved in entering?

There is no charge for schools to register a team. However, if a team is selected to compete in the live, in-person rounds and battle with other schools for the chance to win the prestigous title of “BM Quizzing Champions“ , a small fee of £11.99 will apply. This is to cover the administration costs involved. Whether a team qualifies or not they receive a certificate of participation and also a pass worth £20 to view the final heat of the BMQC.

How do I form a team?

It is in the hands of colleges regarding how they choose to recruit and assess team members from their student bodies. However, the BM Quizzing team is happy to provide broad advice on organising the selection of a team and would also encourage all team organisers to bear in mind the following:

(i) It is vital to place students at the heart of all decisions. Ensure they are given a fair chance to apply their interest in attending the competition. It is of paramount importance that students are presented with their rightful opportunity to: participate in exciting learning experiences and develop important foundational skills.

(ii) You are encouraged to reach out to as wide a pool of students as possible. For example, with a simple message form teachers can read out, in morning registration. You may also consider displaying posters around the school or adding a section to your website/ social media pages.

(Iii) The BM Quizzing Team will provide sample questions, at your request (email info@bmquizzing.com and request a sample kit) which can guide students and organisers on the difficulty of questions asked within the competition. These may be used in tryouts but are by no means essential.

We strongly advise each team to represent as broad a range of knowledge as possible. If this is difficult, you may want to consider requesting our sample kit, which includes split sections of expected knowledge.

How do I enter?

The process is very easy. After a team has been finalised the team captain uses the online registration form to fill out the teams information.

After this has been completed, the teacher named on the team captain's application will be contacted to confirm the school would like to enter and provide us with the final application details.

Once all of these have been completed the team will receive confirmation to say their application is being processed.

Please note, after submitting a complete set of Application Forms, your team may be invited for an interview with members of the Competition's Production Team. Interview slots will be available throughout the period of: 1st October 2022 to 5th October 2022, via an online meeting. The Competition’s Production Team will liaise with Team Captains to arrange these interviews.

If there is any issues you can contact us via our email: info@bmquizzing.com and we will be happy to assist you.

What happens if my team is asked for an interview?

After submitting a complete set of Application Forms, your team may be invited for an interview with members of the Competition's Production Team. Interview slots will be available throughout the period of: 1st October 2022 to 5th October 2022, via an online meeting. The Competition’s Production Team will liaise with Team Captains to arrange these interviews.

It is very important to us that, wherever possible, all team members, including the reserve team member, attend the same interview slot. We ask all applicants to make best efforts to enable this. If exceptional circumstances mean this may not be possible, please let the Competition’s Production Team know as soon as possible and we can discuss alternative arrangements.

The interview itself will last around an 30 minutes, and has two parts: (i) a general knowledge test; and (ii) an informal chat in which applicants will be able to tell us more about themselves and their team.

Final selections will be made on the basis of teams’ performance in both parts of the interview.

What are the rules of the competition?

Please read all the rules before applying. The complete rules of the BMQC can be read here.
